Terms of Reference

MISSION: To globally support a patient safety culture within the chiropractic profession.

OBJECTIVES:
a. Build and sustain a reliable health profession that promotes respect, openness and transparency in relation to safety issues;
b. Ensure information and knowledge are gathered to assess and mitigate risk;
c. Develop synergy, partnerships and solidarity to improve patient safety as it relates to the delivery of quality of chiropractic care; and
d. Monitor and report on the effectiveness of these objectives.

RESPONSIBLILITIES:
The WFC GPS Task Force will be responsible for:
a. Creating patient safety platforms to share international experiences, best practices, tools, ideas and approaches to improve patient safety;
b. Reviewing and analyzing incident reports and other data related to patient safety within the chiropractic profession;
c. Developing and recommending the implementation of strategies to mitigate patient safety issues;
d. Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of patient safety strategies;
e. Developing and delivering education and training programs related to patient safety; and
f. Providing regular progress reports to the WFC Research Committee (RC) and WFC Board of Directors.

Formerly Clinical Research Fellow and Project Manager, Palmer College of Chiropractic. Member, Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine Research Review Committee. Research interests: chiropractic pediatrics, patient safety. 2020 American Chiropractic Association Researcher of the Year .Â
	Vice-Chair Assoc. Professor Sidney RUBINSTEIN DC PhD (Chair) (Netherlands). Dept. Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. PhD in adverse events following chiropractic care (VU University, 2008). Member Cochrane Back and Neck Review Group. Former Chair, ECU Research Committee. Former Research Director, European Academy of Chiropractic. Research Committee member, Netherlands Chiropractic Association. Independent reviewer, multiple peer-reviewed journals. Netherlands-registered epidemiologist. Author, Cochrane Systematic Reviews (acute and chronic low back pain). Active in clinical chiropractic practice.
	Dr Brian COLEMAN DC (USA) is a graduate of the University of Bridgeport. Between 2018 and 2020, he completed a postdoctoral advanced fellowship in medical informatics at the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Healthcare System and the Yale School of Medicine. Since 2020, Dr. Coleman has been an Associate Research Scientist at the Yale School of Medicine and VA Connecticut Healthcare System and in 2021 assumed a further role as a Lecturer in Biostatistics at Yale School of Public Health.
	Dr Stacie SALSBURY RN, MSN, PhD (USA). Assoc. Professor of Research, Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research, Palmer College of Chiropractic. Registered Nurse. PhD in Nursing (University of Iowa, 2007). Masters degree in nursing (1999). Research and Development, U.S. Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Board Member, Chiropractic Educators Research Forum.Research interests: geriatrics, chiropractic care, interprofessional care, chronic low back pain, patient safety, qualitative methodology. Independent reviewer, multiple peer-reviewed journals.Â
	Dr Michael SWAIN PhD MPhil MChiroprac FRCC FHEA (Australia) is a senior lecturer and the director of higher degree research in the Department of Chiropractic at Macquarie University, Australia. He obtained his Masters in Chiropractic and Master pof Philosophy at Macquarie before being awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health at the University of Sydney. He is extensively published and is a alumnus of the Chiropractic Academy of Research Leadership (CARL). He spent 7 years as a director of Chiropractic Australia, leading Australia's leading research event.Â
